Shoryu Ramen

Wonderful wonderful Ramen! Shoryu means ‘to bring good fortune’and now there are four branches in London (one in the City and three in Central London) and came from the team behind Japan Centre (the Japanese Food Hall near Piccadilly). I visited the new branch in Broadgate Circle at the back of Liverpool Street Station on a Tuesday after work and it was pretty busy.

Shoryu Ramen specialises in Hakata tonkotsu ramen which is a style of ramen made with a thick, rich, white pork soup and thin, straight ramen noodles. The ramen is topped with barbecue pork belly, nitamago egg, kikurage mushrooms, spring onion, sesame, ginger and nori seaweed.

We had the curry ramen (rich curry-soy tonkotsu pork broth, goosnargh chicken karaage, nitamago egg, nori seaweed, menma bamboo shoots, naruto fish cake, spring onion, ginger) and the Kimchi Seafood Tonkotsu (fiery kimchi broth, prawns, scallops, squid, nitamago egg, kikurage mushrooms, nori seaweed, spring onion, seasoned beansprouts, sesame, fried shallots).

Accompanying our ramen’s we decided to try the Hirata Buns (light fluffy buns) – one filled with bbq pork and the other with chicken – beautiful!

Lovely service with the staff patiently explaining the different ramens to me! Reasonably priced too – around £25 each with a drink and service.

Huge selection of sake to choose from if it tickles your fancy! (not for me….).
