Based on Rivington Street in Shoreditch is the new revamped Tramshed, one of Mark Hix’s restaurants. Named so as it is situated within a former East End tram-generator building.
High ceilings and long tables and booths with a large installation by Damien Hirst of a cow with a chicken on top, signifying the restaurants specialties – chicken and steak!
Seven of us visited for a work lunch on a Thursday – quiet at first and then started filling up. Service was pretty good, particularly when my food didn’t come out quite as I had ordered.
We all opted for the lunch menu and tried the cock n bull (half chicken half steak sandwich) and the fillet steak sandwich with a selection of sides (salt and vinegar onion rings, fries and mushrooms). Really filling and tasty sandwiches and probably ordered too many sides!
